The Saddlers’ first-team squad to a watching brief as a side made up of a number of trialists performed well against Championship Blues before conceding a couple of late goals in the 3-0 defeat.

And Dutton argues Darrell Clarke’s first-team squad can learn an important lesson in how clinical second tier sides are ahead of Saturday’s visit of the Owls.

“We had a lot of players who would threaten the starting XI not take part and to train and then watch the game,” said Dutton.
