Sam Parkin: Free agents ‘can be a boon for Walsall’

Former Walsall forward Sam Parkin believes the club could benefit from the free agent market in the transfer window.

The impact of the coronavirus pandemic has meant a plethora of players have run down their contracts this summer and Parkin believes Walsall’s budget should allow for that market to strengthen their side.

“We’re living in strange times and we don’t know if the home advantage will be as such, which makes it more of an even playing field,” he said.

“If we start without fans it will be so hard to predict. There’s no guarantee with Bolton that they will be stronger or a certain to be promoted, but you’d have to favour them because of their resources over Walsall at this point.

“Darrell Clarke will have to make some good signings. There are a lot of experienced players out of contract that will probably fit into Walsall’s wage structure.”
