Elijah Adebayo issues Walsall rallying call
Walsall striker Elijah Adebayo is calling on fans to ‘stick together’ as he insists ‘there is light at the end of the tunnel’.
The Saddlers have not kicked a ball since the 3-1 win over Exeter on March 7, with football being suspended soon after due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The current League Two season is expected to be called off and Adebayo has called for supporters to stick together and with the club.
“The main focus is everyone staying at home, if they do that the quicker we will get past this – there is light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.
“Everyone has to stick together and make sure that we stay safe – compared to this football isn’t what we should be solely focused on.
“We do want to get back to it but people out there are suffering and it’s about everyone sticking by the rules and listening to what the government say.”
During lockdown, the Walsall players have been using the Strava fitness app to track their progress and keep fit. And Adebayo believes the communication between the players, and the motivation to push each other with their fitness, will serve them well when football returns.
“There’s been a few group chats made and everyone is keeping in touch with each other,” he added.
“Even though we haven’t seen each other for a while, the spirit is still good.”
