Trust chief’s faith in Walsall leadership

Walsall Supporters' Trust secretary Steve Davies insists he is 'not concerned' about the club's finances and believes the hierarchy is in place to steer them through the coronavirus pandemic.

With games currently suspended indefinitely due to the outbreak, clubs across all leagues have been putting plans in place to deal with the financial implications.

Walsall have furloughed the majority of their staff, only keeping on a 'skeleton team' in an effort to save money – however Davies says he has been 'impressed' with how the club has been run and expects them to come through this period.

"Any income from above is welcome but it's still a drop in the ocean in comparison and no doubt the Championship clubs will probably get most of it before it gets down to use," he said.

"At the moment I'm not concerned about Walsall at all, as far as finances go.

"Times like this are where clubs like Walsall actually come into their own.

"Unfortunately it's the clubs that throw money at it that will probably benefit most because they'll be the ones in trouble.

"I've been impressed with how Walsall have conducted themselves.

"There's a lot of people that are very quick to knock how Walsall is run over the years but when you get into a situation like this, a lot of people would be glad that we have run a tight ship for all these years.

"We're in a better state to withstand what's going on than others."
