Walsall Supporters' Trust secretary Steve Davies backs points-per-game finish
Walsall Supporters’ Trust secretary Steve Davies believes a points-per-game system should be implemented in the EFL if games cannot be finished due to coronavirus.
All matches in the Premier League and Football League have been suspended indefinitely due to the pandemic, with no timeline for its return.
Although reports have surfaced suggesting that the EFL will bring matches back on June 6, behind closed doors, Davies insists that determining the table on a points per game average is the most fair solution if games cannot return – in order to avoid the ‘slap in the face’ of the season being cancelled.
“I’m a big advocate of determining the season on points per game if the season can’t be finished,” Davies said.
“Please don’t do what the FA have done in non-league where they’ve cancelled the season, there’s far too many people who have put far too much work into the season.
“Since the end of last season all the way up until the middle of March people have put a lot of hard work in and it would wipe out everything they’ve done for nine months. It’s a slap in the face for people, particularly at non-league level, to say that the efforts don’t count for anything.”
