Leigh Pomlett: Walsall have done 'remarkably well' controlling finances
Walsall chairman Leigh Pomlett insists the club have done ‘remarkably well’ to ‘hold it together’ through the coronavirus pandemic.
Countless clubs are suffering financially as fixtures are currently suspended, while staff are forced to work from home in line with government advice.
As the players complete training regimes from home, Pomlett says the club’s board are keeping on top of the financial situation – as he thanked fans for their support in buying season tickets.
“I know from talking to other chairmen around the football world, we’ve done remarkably well through this period to hold it together,” he said.
“I’ve got to say, much better than other clubs have been able to do so. That’s the fans that have done that – from the club and from me to you, thanks very much. If we can keep it up, that would be fantastic, but I can perfectly understand how tight things are.
“We have meetings at 10 o’clock in the morning and 2pm in the afternoon, and have done since isolation began.
“We’ll continue to do that to monitor the finances of the club to make sure we ride out this storm.
“We’re in as good a shape as we could be at this stage of the coronavirus period and we’re controlling the business extremely tightly.
“We’re in constant contact with the EFL to make sure that whatever benefits we can get as a club, we take.”
