Forest Green vs Walsall preview: 'We’ve learned from tough times' – Liam Kinsella

Walsall midfielder Liam Kinsella insists the team have learned from losing runs earlier in the season as they bid to get out of their current rut away at Forest Green Rovers.

The Saddlers have now fell to three consecutive defeats, losing to Carlisle, Morecambe and Crewe.

It’s the club’s latest run of poor form after six straight losses in October and Kinsella believes the squad has learnt from that ‘tricky’ period as they prepare to travel to The New Lawn tomorrow.

“You have to learn, it’s such a quick season,” he said.

“We learned from the tricky period where we lost six on the bounce and we need to take that into the next game and make sure we don’t lose.

“Put the performance in and see what happens – you can’t promise results but the performance needs to be there for 90 minutes.

“We need to play with confidence, we can’t play thinking about defeats.

“We need to go into the next game, forget about the games before, and play with confidence with nothing to fear.

“It doesn’t matter where we play, home or away, we just need to be confident.

“Confidence is key to go at teams.

“You need to motivate yourself to do what you’ve got to do for the whole week.

“Make sure you prepare right for the game and give it your all.

“We have to take each game as it comes and give a performance in every game.”

Rovers have now gone four games without a win, after losing three in a row themselves before their 2-2 draw with Grimsby last week.

Despite that, Mark Cooper’s side still sit ninth in League Two, only three points off the play-offs.

Results have pushed Walsall down to 15th but manager Darrell Clarke is adamant his side won’t fear any opponent in this league.

“They’re all tough but they’re all beatable aren’t they?” he said.

“I won’t be losing sleep or fearing about playing anybody in League Two.

“I know, when we’re on our day, we’re more than a match for anybody.

“We’ve had a bad seven days, a real disappointing seven days.

“We have to lift that grey cloud now.

“I have to lift my players, because they do care, and my staff because we all care about the club.

“That’s what we’ll be doing and looking to go down to Forest Green and get a win.”

The 42-year-old also echoed Kinsella’s comments, that the team has learnt from previous losing streaks.

“We’re a little bit Jekyll and Hyde aren’t we?” he added.

“There haven’t been many games this season where we’ve really let ourselves down.

“Personally, I think we’ve been in every single game and you’re hoping that the lads keep learning from that.

“Getting better to get more consistent results over a longer period.

“We had a real poor October and then November, December and a bit of January it was very good.

“Then we’ve slackened off a bit this week, seven days is a long time in football isn’t it.

“We have to dust ourselves down, pick ourselves up and try and get some positivity back in.”

Walsall are expected to still be without striker Rory Gaffney, who is struggling with an achilles injury, and captain James Clarke who has been missing since the Carlisle fixture with an unspecified knock.

Defender Callum Cockerill-Mollett has been injured since the beginning of January and it’s believed he won’t be fit in time for tomorrow.
