Walsall chairman Leigh Pomlett calls for patience
Walsall chairman Leigh Pomlett is calling for patience this season and insists he's happy with manager Darrell Clarke at the helm.
The businessman and Walsall fan took over from previous owner Jeff Bonser in the summer.
Clarke came in as the new manager and has overseen an inconsistent start to life in League Two.
Their four-game winning streak has been replaced by a four-game losing run as the club sit 19th in the league.
Despite this, Pomlett states he is happy with Clarke and is aiming for promotion back to League One 'at some point.'
"I'm pretty pleased with things at this stage," he said.
"I know the fans want us to have four or five more points but this is a building job and it's a project we're doing with Darrell (Clarke) and his team.
"It will take time, I'm happy with where we're at and the progress we're currently making.
"It is (promotion achievable).
"I don't know a chairman in the land that doesn't think that, no matter what football club you're chairman of, if the aim isn't promotion then forget it.
"I said in my earlier interviews when I took the chairmanship, I'm an ambitious pragmatist, we'll get back into League One at some point and I am ambitious to do that, we need to do that.
"But I'm also pragmatic about the fact we're building something different at Walsall and that will take some time.
"Patience is important, but I'm not looking for limitless amounts of it, I'm looking for some as we build and you can see the sort of squad we're building.
"But you won't do that in one transfer window, you're going to need two or three to build the squad that we want.
"I'm very happy with Darrell and his team.
"He's brought a team of Brian (Dutton), Marcus (Stewart) and Maik (Taylor) and all the support staff up there, I think we have an extremely good team.
"I'm very pleased with what I've seen, the progress is good and he is frustrated that we're not higher up the league but I'm fine, it will come.
"With some degree of patience but not endless amounts of it, I'm not blessed with endless amounts of patience and I know that he's not, but we'll get there."
