Home form putting heat on Walsall
Saddlers boss Darrell Clarke has said his side are putting themselves under "massive pressure" at away games due to their poor home form.
The 3-0 loss to Salford at home brought an end to a four-match winning run for Clarke's side and it was followed up by a 3-1 defeat away at Leyton Orient.
Walsall have only won one home game in the league, from six attempts, this season – picking up their other three wins on the road.
They face high-flying Cheltenham at home on Saturday and Clarke wants his side to start picking up more points at the Banks's Stadium.
"We're putting ourselves under massive pressure away from home for me by our performance at home this season," he said.
"The reason why we're not in the top half of the division at the minute is our home form.
"We've picked up three wins away from home, potentially this (Leyton Orient) could have been another away win but we need players to step up to the plate at home.
"Unless you get your home form going you won't be successful in this league, I think we're good enough to go and win double figures away from home in this league, I really do.
"At Leyton Orient it was a bad second half performance, but it's at home where we really have to get ourselves going.
"That isn't up to the fans to get us going, it's up to us to get them going.
"People to show character and belief to get on the ball and to work things like I see every day in training.
"For me the focus needs to quickly go onto next Saturday where we have to start our home form and be consistent at home."
For the boss, the aim to get more points on the board in the next 10 games to try and get the club more daylight between themselves and the bottom clubs.
“Let’s be honest right, where do you expect to be after a quarter of the season with 20 professionals released, six players going back to their loan club, nine members of staff changed," he added.
"We are a rebuilding football club.
"Am I four or five points disappointed? Maybe, but it’s results driven.
"When you see the turnaround over such a short space of time, bear in mind we’re only two competitive months in and now we’ve got to make sure the second quarter of the season is better than the first quarter.
"We’ve got to focus on that and work on where we need to be in the next quarter."
