Darrell Clarke wants smiles for supporters
Walsall boss Darrell Clarke admits his side owe their supporters – and he wants more wins like the victory at Morecambe to put a smile back on fans’ faces.
Clarke oversaw Saddlers’ 1-0 win at Morecambe on Tuesday night and wants to see his side build more partnerships on the pitch.
“Football is for fans to enjoy but we haven’t put enough smiles on their faces, we owe them,” he said.
“Where I stand is, we’ve had a bad start, disappointing points return in the first nine games of this season, did the performance probably warrant a bit more? I think so, but we’re judged on results and we need to back it up on Saturday.
“It takes time to build partnerships. Some of the best clubs in the whole world have built relationships, not in 10 weeks, two, three, four years sometimes.
“I’m not saying it’s going to take that long but your partnerships on the pitch come with more game time.
“It’s a building block to make more consistency in our results. We take the points and move on.
“They’ve been great, they’ve been absolutely fantastic, we haven’t given them much to smile about as of yet but we’ll keep working hard as a club, staff and a group of players to put more smiles on their faces.
“We’re still trying to blend in a group of strikers that haven’t hit the ground running, they’re working ever so hard for the team and I’m sure the hard work will pay off in the future.
“We’re alright. You try to build momentum. All that interests me is trying to get my team better, try to rebuild this football club so that the fans can enjoy nights like Tuesday and nights in the future and everyone’s working hard behind the scenes to do that.”
