Nicky Devlin leaves Walsall

The defender, who joined the Saddlers from Ayr United in 2017, will officially move to the Almondvale Stadium when his contract expires at the end of the month.

Devlin was offered a new deal to remain with Walsall but the lure of playing in the Scottish top flight proved too strong for the 25-year-old who has opted to return north of the border.

Devlin became a fans’ favourite during his time with the Saddlers – both due to his commitment on the field and the personable way he interacted with supporters off it.

And he took to Twitter to say his farewells. “The time has come to move on from Walsall after two years,” he said.

“I’ve loved my time here and it was a pleasure to play for the club! I’ve met some amazing people that I’ll never forget. Thanks for your support even through the difficult times! All the best. UTS (up the Saddlers).”

Walsall had 19 players out of contract at the end of the 2018/19 campaign with Devlin and midfielder Liam Kinsella the only players offered fresh terms.

And fans will now be wondering whether manager Darrell Clarke will look to bring in another right-back with Cameron Norman on the books and new recruit James Clarke aslo able to play there.

After luring Devlin away from Walsall, Livingstone boss Gary Holt said: “I’m over the moon with this signing as it will strengthen us defensively and Nicky will be a very good signing offensively also.

“He will give us great options.

“Nicky has played over 70 games in League One which has no doubt enhanced his development over the years.

“Nicky obviously has experience of the Scottish game also. So all in all we are delighted he has chosen Livingston FC to continue his career.

“I have been working on this one for a few months, and we are delighted to finally get the lad’s signature.”
