Walsall's Dean Keates: Stop conceding early goals

Walsall boss Dean Keates has told his players they must stop conceding early goals if they are to win their battle against relegation.

The Saddlers, who host Oxford at the Banks’s Stadium this afternoon, have conceded 63 goals in their 40 League One matches so far.

A staggering 23 per cent of those have arrived in the first 15 minutes of matches.

And that theme continued last weekend with Keates’ side conceding twice in the opening four minutes at Doncaster.

“We have to stop conceding early goals,” Keates said. “We’ve looked at the stats and they are not great.

“If we are going to get points on the board we are going to have to start keeping clean sheets.

“What happened at Doncaster was massively disappointing. We need to be more resilient when under pressure.”
