Fellow Saddlers loanee Kane Wilson has also seen his temporary switch to the Banks's Stadium come to an end, but he will not be rejoining Dean Keates' side.

Both Fitzwater and Wilson were snapped up by the Saddlers on season-long loans in the summer.

But both those deals included options for Albion and Walsall to review them this month.

Fitzwater is now expected to make his Baggies debut against Wigan Athletic at The Hawthorns on Saturday.

Albion manager Darren Moore is understood to want to give the club’s senior players a rest following a hectic Christmas schedule.

He is also keen to look at how much progress Fitzwater has made on loan in League One.

Albion’s Sporting and Technical Director Luke Dowling said the Baggies are happy to allow Fitzwater to continue his football development at the Banks’s Stadium.

He also revealed Wilson is set for another loan move away from The Hawthorns.

"It will be the case with all of our young players out on loan that when their initial agreements end, we will get them in for an assessment of their progress,” he said.

“For Jack, this is a good opportunity for him to come in and, if Darren wishes, feature in the group for Saturday’s game. But he will be rejoining Walsall after this weekend to continue his progress.

“There is already interest in Kane which we can sit down with him and discuss. It is important we check their levels and asses training programmes before we decide on the next step for these young players.

“But the development of our younger players will be a major feature of our calculations this month.”

A statement released by Walsall, which confirmed Wilson's departure, also confirmed Fitzwater will return to the Banks's Stadium for the rest of the season.

The statement said: "Walsall FC can confirm that right-back Kane Wilson has returned to parent club West Brom.

"The versatile 18-year-old joined the Saddlers on loan in August and appeared 20 times for the club in all competitions.

"Fellow Baggie Jack Fitzwater has been recalled by Albion for their FA Cup tie against Wigan, after which he will rejoin Walsall on loan until the end of the season.

"The 21-year-old has been a regular fixture for the Saddlers this term, making 25 appearances and scoring one goal, in a 3-1 Checkatrade Trophy victory over Middlesbrough Under-21s.

"The young defender also enjoyed a successful loan spell at the Banks’s last season, netting three times in 17 matches.

"We would like to thank Kane for his efforts and wish him well in his future career, while we look forward to welcoming Jack back to the club after the weekend.

"We would also like to thank West Brom for their support and cooperation."
