Liam Kinsella: I don't think there's any better Walsall feeling

Liam Kinsella says it was a special feeling to send Walsall through to the FA Cup third round with a sensational strike at Sunderland.

Midfielder Kinsella took centre stage in the second round replay at the Stadium of Light, with his right-footed rocket giving the Saddlers a 1-0 win.

His second professional goal - his first being against Burton, past the same goalkeeper in Jon McLaughlin - set up a trip to struggling Championship side Bolton in the next stage of the competition.

"I don't think there's any better feeling, to be fair," said Kinsella.

"Scoring a goal, especially at a stadium like this, I didn't know what to do, so I just ran to the fans.

"I just took a touch on the edge of the box and thought 'I might as well give it a go'.

"Thankfully, it's gone in the goal.

"Going back into centre midfield (from right-back), I've got to try to score more goals and thankfully it's happened."

And on scoring past McLaughlin again, Kinsella added: "I didn't banter him or anything. I didn't speak to him."

Walsall chief Dean Keates felt the triumph was just the reward for the attitude and application shown against the Black Cats.

"Full credit to the lads, they kept going and it was a great goal off Kins," he said.

"He's been outstanding since he came in.

"He's taken his opportunity, and that caps it all off - a great 25-yard strike.

"We're delighted. I think it's something that was deserved, definitely.

"We've come away from home and without the ball, we were organised and disciplined.

"And then there were long phases of play where we kept the ball and dominated possession.

"From our side, we've got what we deserved - a cup game with Bolton."

The victory over Sunderland came at the third time of asking this season - drawing 2-2 in League One and then 1-1 in the Cup to set up the replay.

"They're a good team. That's why they're at the top end of our league," added Keates.

"Over the three games, there's not been much between both teams.

"With a little bit of luck in the other games, we would have got three points then.

"We're delighted with our performance and being in the next round."
