Florent Cuvelier has admitted he turned to a pizza delivery to keep cash coming in after his Walsall exit.

The 26-year-old recently signed for Morecambe in a short-term deal, but made more than 70 appearances over three spells at the Banks's Stadium before his departure.

Having been released by Walsall this summer, the former Belgium U21 international admitted he had to look elsewhere to make ends meet whilst hunting for a new club.

"You need to find a way of getting some money in and for me it was delivering pizzas." he told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"It put things in perspective when you go from playing football professionally for 10 years and then you find yourself at the beginning of the season without a club or any income but the bills and the mortgage are still coming through.

"The last couple of months have been very difficult mentally for me and my wife.

"I've spent all these weekends at home sat on my sofa thinking that if anyone gives me an opportunity they will not regret it. I want to get my career going again."

Cuvelier has struggled with injury throughout his career, having suffered a career-threatening knee injury while playing for Port Vale in 2014.

Other injuries also blighted his time at the Banks's Stadium - but he's now looking forward to making an impact in League Two.

"Every day in training is an opportunity to get sharper, stronger, fitter and to impress," he said.

"For me watching the game on Saturday put stars in my eyes and even more fight in my belly to get in the team and get myself going again."
