Chris Marsh: Let’s hit Walsall's home run with full force

It’s been a disappointing few days.

Walsall were beaten 3-0 by Southend at Roots Hall

A first away defeat of the season at Luton was quickly followed by a second at Southend.

Those results mean we suffered back-to-back losses for the first time since April. And now we have to come out fighting because we have a huge chance to get back on track with our next five games all at home.

It’s okay to lose back-to-back games once or twice a season. But, if you do, you have to hit the opposition hard in the next match.

At Luton, we were poor. The Hatters played some of the best football we have seen this season.

But the truth is Walsall were so bad we made them look good. For the first time this season, we didn’t turn up and we got what we deserved.

Southend was a different story. Keatesy called for a reaction and – performance-wise – he got it.

We didn’t take our chances and ultimately were punished. Now we can only look forward.

And these next three home games in the league are massive.

First up is Wycombe on Saturday, one of my former sides.

I went to watch them against Coventry the other week. And, if I’m being honest, they are bang average.

They remind me a lot of when I played for them under Lawrie Sanchez.

They lump the ball forward. They look to play off Adebayo Akinfenwa and they look to turn you.

There is nothing there that should frighten Walsall – even if they are full of confidence having won their last few games.

We need to be winning this game. Especially with our home crowd behind us.

Results at the Banks’s haven’t been the best so far this season.

But with five games coming up on home turf, what an opportunity this is to turn the place into a fortress.

We just need to believe because we have shown on a number of occasions this season just what a good side we are.

Looking at the table, we have fallen down to 12th. But we are still just three points off the play-offs with a game in hand.

Okay, it’s become a bit congested.

But I think everyone – the players included – just need to pause for a moment and breathe.

The progress we have made over the past six months has still been staggering. We have come on leaps and bounds.

Everyone would have taken where we are now when Keatesy was appointed back in March.

And while we ave dipped off, if we can halt this run of loses and get a win on Saturday – we will be right back in the mix.

There is nothing to fear in this league so let’s get back on it in front of our own fans.

We need take a deep breath, assess everything that has happened and then go again.
