Kane Wilson: Walsall made me a dreamer

Walsall’s impressive start to the season has turned Kane Wilson into a dreamer.

The Saddlers were among the bookmakers’ favourites for relegation before the 2018/19 campaign got under way.

But an excellent start to the season has seen them lose just two of their opening 12 matches in League One – with Dean Keates’ side currently sat fifth in the table.

That run of form has led to the players using the #dreamers hashtag on social media as they look to cement a place in the top six.

And Wilson believes they have the talent to achieve something this year.

“The start we have made has been quality,” the Albion loanee said.

“When I first arrived the lads were like ‘Let’s try and get to mid-table and see where it goes.’

“But we’ve come out the traps flying.

“We have won most of our games, only losing two and all the lads are really positive, everyone is dreaming a bit now.

“I’m definitely a dreamer because there is no negativity here.

“We all know that we have to work for each other. The mentality we have will hopefully keep us up there.”

Wilson has featured 10 times for the Saddlers since joining on a season-long loan from Albion in the summer.

Most of those appearances have been from the substitutes’ bench.

But the full-back says his aim now is to force his way into Keates’ starting line-up.

“The aim for me is to keep progressing and hopefully I can now take off,” Wilson continued. “I’m enjoying my time here, the lads are quality.

“Now I am looking to work my way into the starting line-up and become a regular in the league.

“I was on loan at Exeter last season and that has definitely helped me here.

“It taught me about not getting in the team straight away and knowing what I have to do to get in the team.

“I’ve just got to keep working hard to improve.

“I’m quite an attacking player but I know that the defensive side of the game is just as important as getting forward.”
