Liam Kinsella will get a chance to shine at Walsall
Walsall boss Dean Keates says Liam Kinsella will be given the chance to impress in his favoured central midfield role over the course of pre-season.
The 22-year-old, who has come through the youth ranks at the Banks’s Stadium, was converted to a right-back last year by former boss Jon Whitney.
But following talks with Keates, the Republic of Ireland youth international is now set to be restored to the position he plays for his country.
“I’ve had a good chat with Kins (Kinsella),” Keates said.
“I know he can do a job at right-back because of his energy. He plays on the front foot and he is aggressive.
“He is a terrier. But he feels his best position is in central midfield.
“I did speak to him and I have to admit that was in my mind anyway.
“It is something we will look at in pre-season.”
Meanwhile, Keates revealed he will try to give all his players some match minutes when Walsall face Rushall Olympic in their first pre-season friendly next week. Saddlers are due to to take on Liam McDonald’s side at Dales Lane a week today.
And Keates confirmed fans will have the chance to see his full squad in action.
“We have got 22 people and they will all get 45 minutes,” the boss continued.
“I want the whole squad to get minutes. It will be a complete change at half-time.
“It will only be our eighth day of training and we’ll still be topping them up.”
