Dean Keates wants to whisk his Walsall players away
Walsall boss Dean Keates has revealed he is eager to take his players away for a pre-season training camp this summer.
The Saddlers enjoyed a three-day trip in the Lake District before the start of the 2017/18 – with the squad taking part in a gruelling training program at Cassius Camps.
Keates was in charge of Wrexham this time last year and took his team away to Portugal for a bonding trip.
And he would also like to get away with Walsall once he is close to finalising his squad for the new season.
“It’s something I am looking at and in discussions with the club about,” the boss said. “I did it last year at Wrexham. We went to Portugal and it was unbelievable – we took 650 fans.
“It gave the players a chance to work together and get to know one another.
“We only went for four days. But I’d like to go somewhere so we can work, do a couple of sessions a day and help the lads get to know each other.
"It’s about building a togetherness and getting to know each other’s characters. It is something I’m looking at and if we can go away and I’ll definitely try to get it in place.”
