I’ll play anywhere for Walsall says Nicky Devlin
Nicky Devlin says he is happy to play anywhere for Walsall if it means staying part of Dean Keates’ plans.
The 24-year-old, who is primarily a right-back, moved to the right of midfield as the Saddlers secured a 1-1 draw at Oldham on Wednesday.
Devlin, who joined from Ayr United in the summer, is contracted to the club next season.
But after Keates stepped in to replace the sacked Jon Whitney boss, the Scotsman admitted everyone is playing for their futures.
“I have got a contract here next year but with a new manager coming in that might not mean much,” Devlin said.
“I want to be part of this club. I have loved my first year at Walsall.
"It’s not gone as well on the field as I had hoped.
"But I want to be part of it when we are at the top end of the table and going into the last five games with a real chance.”
Devlin enjoyed his stint on the right of midfield at Boundary Park.
“The GPS data showed I ran a lot more than I usually do,” he added.
“But with a new manager coming in, if he asks you to play in goal then you’re going to play in goal.
“Anywhere that the manager wants me to play, I am happy to play there.
“I enjoyed it and it allowed me to get forward.
"But the manager isn’t scared to change things so it doesn’t mean I’m going to be right midfield or right-back on Saturday.”
