Snow warning for Walsall's Posh trip
Boss Jon Whitney has challenged his players to pile more misery on Peterborough tonight – amid weather warnings the game may not go ahead.
The Saddlers travel to London Road with forecasters predicting heavy snow and that temperatures could tumble to as low as minus 5C.
Whitney though will be hoping the game goes ahead with Posh having sacked manager Grant McCann late on Sunday night following a run of no wins in seven games.
Walsall impressed on Saturday despite falling to a 2-1 loss against Blackburn, with a rousing second half display almost enough to earn a point against the league leaders.
And Whitney wants his team to take that form into tonight’s game should it go ahead.
“We are going to Peterborough to create problems for them,” he said.
“We aren’t going to go there and park the bus because that’s not us as a team.
“I want to see the same energy I saw in the second half against Blackburn.
“We broke from a really good shape. We never looked open. And when we were attacking we still kept a really good defensive shape. We were organised. We’re going to Peterborough to get a result and create a bigger gap between us and the bottom four.”
Walsall have won just three games away from the Banks’s Stadium all season.
But while Whitney is targeting more victories on the road, he says draws away from home are often positive results.
“We do want more away victories,” the boss continued.
“But if you can win your home games and draw your away that puts you in a good position.
“You can never guarantee victories. We were close to one at Blackpool. But for me it’s about performance levels.
“We have to make sure we stay in the game and make it difficult for Peterborough tonight because they are a threat.
“They have some talented attacking players, they have pace as well and a lot of goals in the team.
“But we are ready for them. If we can take the energy and belief from the second half against Blackburn forward, we will be a match for any team.”
