DEAL: Walsall sign Jack Fitzwater on loan from West Brom
Walsall have moved to snap up a second central defender on deadline day after Jack Fitzwater agreed a loan move from Albion.
The 20-year-old follows Arsenal’s Krystian Bielik in moving to the Banks’s Stadium on a deal until the end of the season.
Fitzwater, who has previously had loan spells at Chesterfield and non-league Hednesford, joined Forest Green Rovers on a temporary deal at the start of the 2017/18 campaign.
He featured 19 times for the League Two side, scoring once.
And Walsall boss Jon Whitney says he will add some much needed strength and depth to his squad.
“I watched him play (for Albion) against Aston Villa in the match at the Banks’s last week and I saw him again at St George’s Park on Saturday against Ipswich Town,” said Whitney.
“He’s a right-sided centre-half and I really like his attitude.
“He’s someone that West Brom have really high hopes for - I spoke with their staff and he’s one they really like.
“You can see he’s got that in the way he plays, and he’s coming in to try to force his way into the starting line-up with us.
“He’s gone out and got some really good experience at Forest Green this season.
"This continues the club's good relationship with West Brom and we hope that continues into the future."
Meanwhile, Walsall have confirmed striker Simeon Jackson has left the Saddlers to join Grimsby on-loan.
