Jon Whitney wants new Walsall blood in quickly

Walsall boss Jon Whitney says he is eager to make signings sooner rather than later as he continues to work to strengthen his squad.

The Saddlers are currently light on numbers after former loanees Zeli Ismail, Daniel Agyei and Shaun Donnellan all returned to their parent clubs earlier this month.

Midfielder’s Kieron Morris and Florent Cuvelier are also carrying minor knocks which forced them to sit out Walsall’s 3-1 loss at Charlton on Saturday.

“It’s a big 10 days for us,” Whitney said. “We all know, you don’t have to be a manager to know, that we need to bring in a couple of players.

“We need to reinforce and strengthen. If you look at the bench at Charlton, we have got Will (Shorrock) and Mitch (Candlin).

"It’s a young team when you look at the average age and take away skip (Adam Chambers). So we’ve spoken to quite a few clubs.

"Quite a few are hanging on to see if they get people in first. But we have got to make sure if a player comes into this group he does it right and had got the right attitude."
