Joe Edwards: Walsall need to stick together
Joe Edwards has stressed the importance of not getting carried away by a disappointing run of results following a rollercoaster few weeks at Walsall.
The Saddlers, who welcome Peterborough to the Banks’s Stadium today, have come under fire following defeats at Bristol Rovers and Rotherham.
But just a week ago the mood among supporters was very different after impressive displays against Bradford and Plymouth. And with a lot of young players in the squad, Edwards sees it as his responsibility to keep everyone on an even keel.
“The emotions now are very different to how they were before Bristol Rovers,” he said. “But you don’t become a bad team overnight.
“You have got to keep yourself steady. As a young lad I would dwell on defeats longer than I do now.
“It’s not a matter of caring less. It’s just a matter of learning how to deal with the negatives of football.
“The young lads have been disappointed and it might affect them more. But it’s up to the likes of me, Adam Chambers and the older players to make sure everyone sticks together.”
