Walsall transfers: Jon Whitney hopeful of late signing
Walsall boss Jon Whitney is still hoping to bolster his squad on transfer deadline day – despite admitting he has missed out on a couple of targets.
The Saddlers manager swooped to snap up Tyler Roberts from Albion last week, with the striker grabbing a goal and assist on his debut against Bradford.
Whitney though is still keen on adding one more attacking player to his squad before tonight’s 11pm deadline.
But speaking before he took training this morning, the 46-year-old said he couldn’t confirm whether a deal would be completed in time.
“We are still working to try and add one if we can,” Whitney said.
“Whether we will, we’ll have to see what happens over the day.
“A couple of the targets we have had over the past few weeks have decided to stay with their parent clubs.
“We have been a little bit unfortunate but I can understand why because they have done well.
"We’re going to have to see what happens. We have been looking to reinforce up top and also in the wide areas. I wanted to bring in one of the two.
“We’ll get training out the way today and then I’ll sit down and make a few phone calls and speak to a few people to see what develops.”
Asked whether he was optimistic a deal would get done, Whitney replied: “I’m always optimistic and always hopeful. That is the way I live my life. But we’ll have to see what happens.”
