Joe Edwards is Mr Versatile, says Walsall boss
Walsall boss Jon Whitney has hailed Joe Edwards as 'Mr Versatile' and a role model to the club's young players.
Edwards, aged 26, has featured in several positions for the Saddlers since his arrival from Colchester United last year including at full-back and in midfield – both centrally and out wide.
In a 0-0 draw against Villa during the week, he played left midfield and Whitney said: "He played left wing-back towards the end of last season and also left midfield once or twice when we played a 4-4-2.
"It is important with full backs like Luke (Leahy) and Nicky (Devlin) because they like to bomb on.
"So if we have got Joe and Kieron (Morris) coming inside – that gives us space for the full-backs to step out.
"That is what we are looking at now, who can play with who. Joe can play the other side as well.
"He is Mr Versatile. And I thought it was important we had a look at him over there."
He added: "I think Joe gives us security defensively but he also links in really well.
"His discipline is also really good and he loves responsibility. He is a role model for our younger players."
