Mark Gillespie: Walsall targetting top-six finish
Goalkeeper Mark Gillespie says Walsall are targeting a top-six finish next season.
The former Carlisle man is no stranger to a promotion push after finishing in the League Two play-offs last season.
Walsall face a tough start to the 2017/18 campaign with Jon Whitney's side facing Bury, Oldham, Portsmouth and Bradford in August.
And Gillespie believes a positive start will be crucial to their play-off hopes.
"We have to be looking towards the play-offs,"he said.
"Having spoken to the lads, last season they were in touching distance going into the last 10 games.
"Things went against them from there. But I think play-offs has to be the target.
"I’m sure the other 23 teams are saying the same thing. It's going to be tough. And I think it’s important we get off to a good start. That could be massive.
"If you look at our first four or five games, it’s quite tough so if we can get through that with a good amount of points on the board I don’t see why we can’t go on and have a really good season."
