Joe Edwards excited for Walsall return
Joe Edwards admits he is excited to be joining up with the Walsall squad again as the players get set to return for pre-season training.
After almost two months without a competitive game, the Saddlers report back to their Essington base on Monday in preparation for the 2017/18 campaign.
And while Edwards has enjoyed his time off, he admits he is now eager to lace up his boots again and get back to playing football.
“The summer has flown by,” the 26-year-old said.
“It’s been a good break. I managed to get myself away to America for a couple of weeks and did a bit of travelling over there. It was nice to get away, relax my body and enjoy myself.
“Pre-season is not far away now and I’m really excited.
“After a couple of weeks you get that little bug and you want to get back in the routine of training and being with the boys – which is what I enjoy the most.
“You do miss it. It’s been a longer break than normal this summer, but I’m looking forward to getting back in and seeing the lads.”
Despite being on holiday, Edwards revealed he has still worked on his fitness during the close season.
And now the former Yeovil skipper is determined to hit the ground running with pre-season training begins.
“If you do keep yourself ticking over it makes it easier for when you do come back,” Edwards added.
“From experience, it’s easier to start earlier as it gives you the best chance possible.
“I give myself a few weeks off when the season finishes to completely rest my body, and then after that I’ll do a little bit to get myself going again and keep myself ticking over.
“That way I come back fully prepared.”
