Morris aims to fire Saddlers into top half
KIERON MORRIS says he is determined to find the goals that will secure a top half finish for Walsall.
The Saddlers face a crunch few days in League One with Jon Whitney’s side travelling to take on Shrewsbury today before then hosting Swindon at the Banks’s on Monday.
With just five games of the season remaining, Whitney has challenged his players to end the campaign in the top half of the division.
And Morris, who has scored just once in his last 19 games, believes he can score the goals to make that happen.
“I feel like the goals are coming,” the 22-year-old said. “Overall I feel I’m playing well. I’m enjoying playing in the middle of the park because I get a lot of the ball there and I am able to get shots off.
“That is what the gaffer and staff tell me – they tell me to get my shots away because I am capable of scoring goals.
“I haven’t scored in a while now but I’m getting in some good positions. I think if I keep shooting one will soon go in. “Hopefully I can score in the last five games because were determined to finish in the top half.”
Meanwhile, it has been reported Walsall are amongst a host of clubs chasing Woking striker Gozie Ugwu.
The 23-year-old, who came through the ranks at Reading, has scored 18 goals and created a further six assists for the Vanarama National side.
Ugwu has previously had spells in the Football League with Yeovil Town and Wycombe.
It’s believed Walsall are amongst a host of clubs who have sent scouts to watch the forward with Scottish Premier League duo Motherwell and Partick Thistle also reported to be keen.
Speaking last week, Whitney confirmed he is scouring non-league for gems as he continues his preparations for next season.
“We have had a look at quite a few of the non-league players,” the boss said.
“I have been down to Barrow. We have looked at Kidderminster over the past weeks. A striker at Fylde. There are quite a few we are looking at.”
