Kieron Morris: Walsall must tighten up at the back

Kieron Morris admits he is relishing being part of Walsall's side but has warned they must tighten up at the back.

The Saddlers make the long trip to Kent to take on a Gillingham side who have lost each of their last four outings in League One.

In contrast, Jon Whitney's men enter the clash on the back of three straight victories, the latest of which saw them run out 3-2 winners over West Midlands rivals Shrewsbury.

But while Morris felt there were plenty of positives from that win, he also believes there are areas the team needs to improve.

"Shrewsbury was one of those games where I think we dominated but both teams were a threat," he said.

"They were a threat with the long ball, they played very direct at times and we struggled to deal with that.

"On the balance of play, and with the chances we created, I felt we deserved all three points.

"But we weren't able to pop the ball around like we can because they didn't press us, they just sat back and were happy to go long.

"They kept getting the ball into the final third and we needed to stop that from happening.

"But it's a learning curve and going forward we looked really dangerous.

"It's now three wins on the spin and that gives us great confidence.

"If we can take the positives from the last three games and work on what we need to work on, we will have a great chance in every game."

Walsall look set to recall Simeon Jackson for tonight's clash with the striker on course to recover from a thigh injury in time to play.

He will replace Amadou Bakayoko who scored in the victory over Shrewsbury but then got sent off for jumping into the crowd to celebrate the team's late winner. But while the 20-year-old will miss tonight's game, Morris believes he can be pleased with the impact he is making on the side.

"Ama scored two in two and is showing what a talent he is," Morris added.

"He is a powerful lad. He's a great target man and is great for me and Franck (Moussa) to play off. But he is also a good finisher. It's a shame he will miss tonight's game.

"I think sometimes referees need to be a bit more cautious but for Ama, that is where experience comes in.

"It wasn't actually him that scored the winner, he just got over-excited."
