Paul Downing thanks Walsall after four 'fantastic' years
Paul Downing has spoken publicly for the first time since it was confirmed he is leaving Walsall – and has thanked the club for four "fantastic" years.
The defender is one of a handful of players who have decided to reject a new deal with the Saddlers and move on this summer.
Romaine Sawyers, Jason Demetriou and Milan Lalkovic have all told the Walsall hierarchy they won't be signing the new contracts offered to them at the end of last season.
Doubts also remain over the futures of Sam Mantom and Jordan Cook while Andy Taylor is believed to be close to signing for League Two outfit Blackpool.
Downing joined Walsall following his release from Albion in 2012.
And he took to social media site Instagram to say his farewells after posting the team photo Walsall took before the start of the 2014/15 campaign.
"What a pleasure it has been to be part of this team in my final season," Downing said.
"Four fantastic years at Walsall which I have loved every minute of.
"Want to thank all the players, staff and fans for your support during my time and I wish the club all the very best in the future."
Meanwhile, Walsall have confirmed their League Cup first round clash with Yeovil will take place on Tuesday August, 9.
Tickets are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for under-18s and over-60s.
