The Foxes are keen to bolster their squad as they bid to defend their crown as well as tackle the rigours of a European campaign in 2015/16.
But the Hornets – who replaced head coach Quique Sanchez Flores with Walter Mazzari – are not strapped for cash and want to progress themselves.
Walsall sold Deeney to Watford for £500,000 in 2010, a deal that is believed to also entitle them to 20 per cent of any profit.
