Sean O'Driscoll: We want to keep stars

Walsall boss Sean O'Driscoll is confident of keeping his promotion-chasing squad together for the rest of the season.

The transfer window closes on Monday with the likes of Romaine Sawyers, Tom Bradshaw and Rico Henry having all been linked with moves away.

But while interest in his players remains high, O'Driscoll expects them to all stay at the Banks's.

"There have been inquires but I ring up clubs and managers and ask about their players all the time," he said.

"Is that an enquiry? The club are not actively trying to sell anybody.

"The chairman has stated he doesn't want anyone to leave in January. And so far nobody has come to us and made a concrete offer so it's not a problem."There have been phone calls and various people have put things to do different because football is a bit of a village - everyone knows everyone and we are all like old women cackling about this player and that player.

"But there is nothing really to report and all the players are fully focused on what they are trying to achieve here."

O'Driscoll added to his squad this week by snapping up talented midfielder Bryn Morris on loan from Middlesbrough.

In the past, the boss has stated he will only sign players who won't disrupt Walsall's team spirit.

And while admitting it's difficult to find the right characters, he didn't rule out making further additions before Monday's deadline.

"It has been difficult to get one over the line in the sense that you have got to pick the right one.

"Every manager in the country will have been inundated by agents touting their players.

"There is an abundance of players. It's a case of trying to work out which is the right one for you.

"We are not constrained by the window because the emergency loan window opens shortly after.

"If something comes along you never know. It is game by game.

"If we get a couple of injuries against Reading the whole situation changes because we have a game at Doncaster on Tuesday - arguably a more important game."
