Head coach Sean O'Driscoll hopes George Evans' successful loan at Walsall will help the club attract more players.

The 21-year-old was surprisingly recalled by parent club Manchester City just hours before the Saddlers' 3-2 win at League One rivals Bury on Saturday.

Evans is believed to have at least four offers from Championship clubs on the table with Reading thought to be leading the chase. The midfielder showed how much he enjoyed his time at the Banks's by sitting with supporters as Walsall secured victory at Gigg Lane.

"It was almost inevitable George would leave," said O'Driscoll.

"Walsall have put him in the shop window and everyone at the club is delighted for him.

"He went to Bury so he could see the lads and hopefully the reputation of Walsall as a club that takes players from bigger clubs and improves them will be enhanced.

"Hopefully we can benefit from that in the future."

Evans himself took to social media to thank the club for everything it has done for him.

"Just want to say a massive thank-you to everyone involved at Walsall. The players, the staff and the fans," he said.

"It's been an unreal experience for me, one I'll never forget."

Meanwhile, O'Driscoll was delighted with the performances of Anthony Forde and Andy Taylor in the win over the Shakers.

Both players were recalled to the starting line-up having been on the bench in recent weeks with Forde responding with an outstanding individual goal and Taylor with a solid defensive display.

"Taylor made a mistake for their first goal, but it was because of the conditions that he mis-controlled it," O'Driscoll said.

"But overall he was excellent, solid. And Anthony Forde, who plays either side, was excellent as well. He scored a good goal and he has got that in his locker."
