Saddlers stars bring festive cheer to youngsters at Walsall's Manor Hospital

Christmas came early for children in one hospital which received a visit from Walsall FC players, who came bearing gifts and happy to pose for photographs.

Skipper Adam Chambers, Craig MacGillivray, Andy Taylor and Sam Mantom were among the players visiting Walsall Manor Hospital on Wednesday afternoon.

There were smiles all round as the players made their way through the hospital corridors greeting patients and the public.

The players first visited the children's ward before going to the paediatric assessment unit and finishing at the outpatients ward.

They then topped off their festive visit by singing a few verses of 'We wish you a Merry Christmas' along with staff, parents and patients who joined in.

Chambers said: "We have been doing this visit to the hospital for a few years now.

"It's great to be able to give back and brighten up the day for the little ones.

"It is never nice being in hospital at this time of year.

"It is never nice at any time of year, but especially at Christmas, so anything we can do to try and lift their spirits and brighten there day, we are more than happy to do."

Defender Andy Taylor added: "Obviously it is a nice thing to do.

"Coming up to Christmas time, hopefully we can bring a little bit of joy to the kids.

"It is never nice being in hospital, especially at this time of year, so it is great that we can come and see the patients, have some photo's with them and bring some gifts.

"Hopefully that has made their day a little bit more cheerful."

Walsall Manor Hospital then took to Twitter to thank the Saddlers for visit the hospital.

It said: "Thanks to all @WFCOfficial for their generosity and good luck with the rest of the season! #WalsallFC."
