Walsall could net windfall on Troy Deeney
Walsall could be set for a big cash windfall with Newcastle preparing a substantial bid for Troy Deeney.
The 26-year-old striker left the Saddlers for Watford in 2010 for a fee of £500,000.
Walsall officials negotiated a sell-on clause at the time and the club stands to benefit from an undisclosed percentage of any fee should Deeney be sold this summer.
New Newcastle boss Steve McClaren is believed to have been handed a £25million war chest by owner Mike Ashley in a bid to revive the club fortunes.
The former England boss is known to be a big admirer of Deeney, who has scored more than 20 goals for three consecutive seasons.
It has been reported McClaren had a £9million bid turned down for the striker while he was in charge at Derby County.
And now McClaren is thought to working on an even bigger deal that would see Deeney head to St James' Park to lead the Newcastle line this summer.
Nigel Pearson's Leicester City have also been linked to the front-man.
