Geddes seals FA cup glory
Former Walsall and Stourbridge midfielder Sean Geddes was the toast of Worcester today after firing them into the second round of the FA Cup at the expense of Coventry City.
The ex-Manchester United trainee hit a first-half penalty and added a second before the League One side pulled a goal back through Reda Johnson.
Conference North side Worcester, who play their home games at Kidderminster's Aggborough ground, recorded their most famous Cup win since they knocked out Liverpool in 1959.
Worcester boss Carl Heeley said: "We were the better side. It's just what dreams are made of, it's the perfect ending to a perfect week and I'm delighted for everyone involved with Worcester City Football Club. We're nine games unbeaten now, so we're a good footballing side. But to come to a League One club and to beat them on their own patch– it's a brilliant day.
"The seven minutes of injury time were the longest of my life, but this is the proudest day of my football career and finishes off the week for me after the birth of my daughter.
"We genuinely thought we could come here and get a result. We've got some good footballers and they're incredibly fit lads, so I didn't think the full-time/part-time thing would be a factor.
"Often in these games, you get fazed by the occasion but we took the game to them and were the better side and I'm very proud of them.
"I'm delighted for Sean Geddes. He was a key part of a Stourbridge side who've had a couple of cup runs. He's got goals in him. That's why we brought him here.
"We hope there's more good times to come. We want to reach the third round and there'll be a few wary of drawing Worcester City after that."
Pressley added: "I was extremely embarrassed by that – embarrassed for the football club, for the players, for myself. When you look at the history of this proud club this result ranks as one of the worst – if not the worst – and we are responsible for that. It doesn't get much lower – that result and that performance is not acceptable but we have to show our resilience and our character."
