Former Walsall favourite Kris Taylor will return to the Banks's Stadium in a special charity game – just weeks after returning to action following his battle with cancer.

Taylor, who underwent surgery and chemotherapy after being diagnosed with testicular cancer earlier this year, is among several former Saddlers heroes who will take part in shirt sponsor CAT Communications' charity game at the stadium next Thursday , May 22, (kick-off 7.30pm).

The 30-year-old, who now plays for Hednesford Town and had spells at Manchester United and AFC Telford during his career, made more than 90 appearances for the Saddlers in a five-year spell between 2002 and 2007. His return will be poignant for supporters, who have held a minute's applause in the 15th minute of matches since his diagnosis. Taylor wore the number 15 shirt during his time with the club.

"Kris was part of our League Two championship winning side and there aren't many players who can say they were part of a Walsall side which won a title," said Walsall Supporters Trust secretary Steve Davies, who has helped to organise the game. The match is the final one to be organised by CAT Communications, the Saddlers' front of shirt sponsor this season. The company has organised several charity games and fundraising events at the club in recent years. Funds raised on the night will be split between the Last Chance Hotel Animal Rescue and Balls to Cancer – the latter charity chosen after Taylor's diagnosis.

Taylor is one of around 30 former players set to appear on the night. Other names signed up include Zigor Aranalde, Mark Kinsella, Ian Roper and David Kelly.

The former favourites will form the "Mad Dog" team, which will be captained by Saddlers legend Chris Marsh, who is playing his final game at the stadium.

Admission for spectators will be £2 for adults and £1 for concessions.
