The Saddlers boss was forced to rebuild his striking department following the summer departures of Will Grigg, Febain Brandy and Jamie Paterson.

Much attention has therefore fallen on new recruits like Milan Lalkovic and Romaine Sawyers but both have started the season well and are off the mark.

The re-signed Craig Westcarr has also impressed and is currently joint-top scorer with James Baxendale.

"The new guys have all done really well but it's no less than I thought they would," said Smith.

"I knew about Milan and what he would bring to us. I knew about Romaine Sawyers andTroy Hewitt and what they would bring to us.

"I'm really pleased with what they have done so far."
