The 24-year-old defender was released by the Saddlers at the end of last season and has been unable to find another club.

He knows Villa boss Craig Timmins from his youth team days at the Banks's and has signed forms for the Midlands Combination Premier outfit.

"I've known Richard for a long time," said Timmins.

"He's training with us to keep himself fit as he looks to get fixed up with a new club."
