The 20-year-old made 34 appearances for the Saddlers after signing last August, scoring four goals.

Baxendale, who had been released by home-town club Doncaster Rovers, was rewarded with a new one-and-half year deal in January. Before arriving at the Banks's Stadium, his previous first-team experience consisted of just three substitute appearances, two for Rovers and one on loan at Hereford United.

He said: "It's been a really enjoyable season. It's been my first real season and I have loved every minute.

"Being out there and involved has been fantastic and hopefully it will continue next season.

"The lads and the gaffer have been great and we've put in some really good performances."
