Craig Westcarr: Walsall's rivals can 'bring it on'

Walsall striker Craig Westcarr today cranked up the promotion heat on the club's play-off rivals and roared "bring it on."

The Saddlers are three points behind the top six with four games left after just one defeat in 2013 propelled them into contention.

Monday's 4-0 romp over Coventry kept them eighth in League One, ahead of fourth placed Sheffield United's visit on Saturday.

And Westcarr, who bagged two goals against the Sky Blues, threw down the gauntlet to their rivals and insisted the Saddlers will go all out to secure a top six spot.

He said: "We want to go for it like we did on Monday – see if anyone can come and beat us.

"You come and beat us. Sheffield want automatic promotion, they don't want to go through the play-offs.

"We know they're going to be up for it. We're in a good position and we don't want to finish the season thinking we could have or should have.

"We should grab it with both hands. I think we're in the best position of all of them. We went 16 games without a win and bumped straight up.

"We're happy to play how we are and see where it takes us."

The Saddlers extended their unbeaten run to 12 games after their draw at Yeovil and their pasting of Coventry and have lost just twice in their last 21 outings.

Forward Westcarr dismissed Saturday as a 'must- win' game but admitted the Saddlers cannot afford to lose if they want to stay in the hunt.

The 28-year-old said: "If we are still intact after Saturday, two or three points behind, then you never know. No-one is pulling away."
