Paul Downing signs a new contract at Walsall FC
Walsall revealed today that key defender Paul Downing has penned a new 18-month contract with the club.
It is a major boost for boss Dean Smith's squad ahead of their trip to face League One title-chasers Doncaster Rovers tomorrow.
The 21-year-old is a product of the West Brom youth system, where he was extremely highly-rated as he came up through the ranks at the Hawthorns.
Since his arrival at the Banks's Stadium last August, Downing has continued to make progress.
He said: "Paul has really impressed me during his time at the club. He's had to bide his time, but stepped up when called upon and has done very well for us.
"He's been an important member of the team during our winning run and I am delighted that he has committed himself to the club.
"His attitude and hunger will stand him in good stead for the future."
