Walsall put up a spirited showing but found the strength of Premier League spenders QPR too much for them in this Capital Cup second round tie. The Saddlers were trailing to a goal from Shaun Wright-Phillips at the break and threatened to discomfort Mark Hughes's men when Will Grigg hit the bar with a 49th minute header.

But Rangers got stronger as Walsall inevitably wilted against a full-strength Premier League outfit and goals in the last half hour from Jose Bosingwa and Djibril Cisse clinched the result.

The Saddlers were far from embarrassed, though, and saw new signing, left back Andy Taylor, make a promising debut in direct competition against Wright-Phillips.

The bigger worry for manager Dean Smith could prove to be the hamstring injury which took midfielder Adam Chambers out of the game midway through the first half and is likely to rule him out for a fortnight.
