New-boy Kevan Hurst insists will have a licence to thrill at Walsall after vowing to be the Saddlers' creator-in-chief.

The 25-year-old wants to be let off the leash after coming to the Banks's Stadium on a one-year deal.

Hurst joined yesterday after being released by Carlisle at the end of last season and will meet his new team-mates when they return for pre-season training tomorrow.

And the versatile midfielder, who can play anywhere across the middle, insisted he can supply the ammunition for his new strike-force.

He said: "I prefer playing on the wing. I enjoy nothing more than getting at players and creating chances. My main attribute is crossing, but I'd like to think that I can start contributing some goals as well.

"I've played at Banks's Stadium a few times over the years and the size of the pitch here will suit my game.

"I've had a lot of good battles against Walsall and hopefully I can help the club improve and push on."

Hurst's arrival is likely to end Julian Gray's Saddlers career after the left-winger failed to agree fresh terms.

Last season's 10-goal top scorer missed the deadline to agree a new contract earlier this month and manager Dean Smith has insisted he will move on without him.
