Skipper Andy Butler today urged Walsall to prepare for their final battles and roared: 'we're going to war'.

The Saddlers go to Yeovil on Saturday desperate to escape the drop zone after they slipped back into the bottom four on Tuesday following a 2-0 defeat to Leyton Orient.

With just three points separating the bottom five the Saddlers could be out of the relegation zone or at the foot of League One on Saturday.

And captain Butler has issued a battle cry ahead of the last 10 matches which will settle the Saddlers' fate.

He said: "Every game has got to be a war. That's me down to a tee, I'll go in anywhere where it hurts and the rest of the players will as well. We're all built for a battle but when the time to play football comes we will do that as well.

"We've got to set our stall out and, as the game goes on, we'll get our flair players like Julian (Gray) and Nics (Alex Nicholls) and Matt Richards on the ball.

"We have got players for a war and to play football. You have got to put your stamp on the game and set your stall our early doors so people know what you're about. When the time comes we've got quality on the ball.

"Every game is important and we need the fans to come out and support us."

The Saddlers have kept four clean sheets in the last six games to give them a chance of beating the drop and go to Huish Park in confident mood.

And Butler insisted the back four – who came under fire earlier this season – had a point to prove.

"We have been getting better at the back, when I first came I thought we conceded too many goals but we seem to have shut up shop a little bit now," said the 27-year-old.

"That's down to being a consistent player as well and having to prove you deserve the spot.

"Ollie (Lancashire), Tom (Williams) and Wacka (Jimmy Walker) have been brilliant, as has Westy (Darryl Westlake). We've got strength at the back with Clayton (McDonald)and Manny (Smith) waiting to jump in at any time. They are keeping us on our toes and pushing us to keep more clean sheets.

"If you keep a clean sheet it guarantees you at least a point and that's what we need. We need to make sure we keep getting points."
