Chris Hutchings calm over his future

Under-fire Chris Hutchings today remained tight-lipped over his future as Walsall boss.

The Saddlers hit a new low with a 3-0 home defeat to Notts County on Saturday to send them bottom of League One. But the boss remained defiant when questioned on his future.

He said: "All I'm worried about is the next game and that's what I'll be doing unless anything else is said."

Asked if he still had the support of chairman Jeff Bonser, Hutchings simply added: "You'll have to ask him that."

Walsall, who have lost nine of their 13 home games this season, go to Peterborough today.

And County bossed the Saddlers – who have lost nine of their 13 home games this season – on Saturday to move nine points clear of their opponents.

Hutchings rounded on his players – who have won just four times in their last 21 games – after they capitulated to the slick Magpies.

He said: "They are playing for their futures whether they've got a year's contract or a two year contract, that's what it's all about, you're always playing for your future.

"A defeat is a defeat and we don't like it. It's not only me, the players are getting booed off as well and we've got to put performances in to turn it around.

"They've got to look at themselves and think 'can I do better?'"

Hutchings vowed to bring in new recruits ahead of back-to-back games at relegation rivals Tranmere and Bristol Rovers on Saturday and next Tuesday.

He said: "We can bring players in and we'll be looking at that imminently to try and change things round.

"At the moment we need it because we've been very inconsistent."

The Saddlers have failed to beat any of the other bottom nine sides this season – and are yet to play Bristol Rovers – but Hutchings admitted they need to start winning their crunch clashes.

He said: "It's only three points but when you play teams around you they are the points you have to pick up.

"It's disappointing but we were disappointed when we got beaten at Huddersfield, so we'll take every game as it comes and have to make sure we start picking up points."
