Walsall's woes continue after they went down to Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Darren Potter, Mark Beevers and Clinton Morrison sunk the Saddlers who remain bottom, seven points from safety in League One.

Potter rattled in from 25-yards after just seven minutes – although goalkeeper Jimmy Walker should have done better – and Beevers netted with 15 minutes remaining.

Morrison then headed in the third for the promotion-chasers eight minutes from time.

The Saddlers gave their promotion chasing hosts a scare as Reuben Reid, Will Grigg and Matt Richards all tested goalkeeper Nicky Weaver.

But defeat was compounded by the loss of Jonathan Macken and Reid to injuries.

Walsall were unchanged following their 2-1 win over Carlisle on Saturday but Ryan McGivern did return to the bench after suspension, replacing Sean Geddes.

But, after a solid first five minutes, the Saddlers fell behind when Gary Teale's cross was half cleared to Potter and the midfielder found the bottom corner from 25-yards.

To their credit, the Saddlers stuck to their task and frustrated their hosts but suffered a setback when Macken limped off after just 26 minutes.

Replacement Liam Dickinson flicked Alex Nicholls' cross wide, before Walker saved low from Tommy Miller after the midfielder burst through the Saddlers' defence.

Reid forced a sharp save from Weaver just before the break, as the Saddlers pressed before he was forced off mid-way through the second-half.

Grigg and Richards tested Weaver but the Saddlers found themselves 2-0 down with 15 minutes remaining ,when Beevers steered a fine header into the top corner from Teale's cross.

The visitors tried to rally and Richards' drive deflected wide but Morrison bagged the third eight minutes from time, heading in Teale's near post corner.
