Walsall new-boy Liam Dickinson has insisted the Saddlers are the real deal despite their alarming slump continuing against Peterborough.

The striker made his debut in last night's 3-1 defeat to Posh – just hours after signing on a month's loan from Barnsley.

Despite an improved performance Walsall slipped to their 10th defeat in 15 League One games – a run which has left them rooted to the bottom of the table.

And Dickinson believes his new team must keep their cool because time is on their side.

He said: "We're only in November, we've got until May to turn it around and in football that's a lot of time.

"It might not come in the next game or the game after but with the experience here, the hunger and the quality we've got a winning formula.

"You see it every season a team struggles and struggles and are unfortunate but they get a win and then go on a run. The table is that tight you get right out of there."

But the 25-year-old, who had a spell on loan at Posh last season, conceded the Saddlers must cut out the mistakes.

Dickinson admitted his slip allowed Ryan Bennett to score the visitors' first before Arron Davies added a second a minute later.

He said: "The lads dug deep but it was individual errors which cost us, it was my fault for the first goal because my man scored.

"You're not going to go anywhere in this league by giving away silly goals and myself and the lads have got to learn from that.

"Goals count at the end of the day, we need to scratch out the individual errors and make sure we're switched on."

Julian Gray bagged a consolation for the Saddlers before Kelvin Langmead clinched it for Posh, but Dickinson felt his new team deserved something from the game.

He said: "I think everyone will agree we were the better team and we had better opportunities, but every time a second ball dropped in their box one of the defenders was there to clear it."
