But the Glassboys were given a huge helping hand after Bedford had Charley Sanders sent off on the hour after picking up a second yellow card.

Sanders had clashed with Stourbridge striker Reece Styche following an Alex Prosser corner and Obinna Anaebonam stepped up to level from the resulting penalty.

By that stage Stourbridge had already fallen behind after former Peterborough United striker Jermaine Howe had turned a low cross home at the near post on 56 minutes.

The game turned on its head five minutes later with Sanders sending off and Stourbridge duly cranked up the pressure from that point.

Hull eventually struck the winning goal from another Prosser corner on 77 minutes but there were still a few anxious moments to survive as Bedford tried to repair the damage.

They almost levelled in the closing stages when Howe turned back the clock with a superb goalbound shot on the turn but was thwarted by a fabulous save from Stourbridge shotstopper Charlie Price who dived full stretch to turn the ball around the post.

Stourbridge could have easily added a third goal when the dangerous Dexter Walters cut inside from the right flank and fired a terrific shot which Bedford goalkeeper Lewis Elsom did well to save.

Delighted Glassboys joint boss Stuart Pierpoint insisted: "Twelve months ago, we wouldn't have won this game, but I don't care how we get the points at this stage of the season as long as we get them.

"We've drawn too many games this season but now we're at the business end, we have to keep turning those draws into three points".
